Program Manager, The Sustainability Network

The Sustainability Network is a management support centre for Canadian environmental nonprofit organizations. Our mission is to enrich environmental leaders through programs, services and support that help them increase their capacity to lead, manage and strategize. We assemble the necessary resources to provide innovative and collaborative learning opportunities and solutions to the environmental community.

The Sustainability Network is seeking a resourceful accomplished staff to help at a
significant time in the development of the organization. Reporting to the Executive
Director, the Program Manager will play a key role in delivering existing programs,
shaping future efforts and IT coordination.

Specific responsibilities include:

Program Management

  • help design and coordinate our Boreal Learning Network which links ENGOs and First
  • Nations across several provinces
  • facilitate and support a BLN program committee
  • help develop strategies for the implementation and expansion of this and other ENGO
  • capacity building initiatives
  • project budgeting, meeting revenue and expense goals, and reporting requirements

Development and Fundraising

  • develop individual giving (attract and steward donors) and corporate relationships
  • explore new grant opportunities (partnerships, proposal preparation)
  • assist in identifying strategic programs/services where the Sustainability Network can
  • enhance value to the organizations we serve

The Program Manager will also be responsible for:

  • coordinating our IT strategy which integrates various online tools we employ to engage
  • ENGOs and our supporters
  • maintaining office operations in conjunction with our part-time Website, Events &
  • Client Relations Support Staff

We seek a well-rounded, self-motivated individual with the following skills and
qualifications:

  • strong communication, facilitation, inter-personal and consensus building skills
  • ability to encourage collaboration and develop strategic partnerships, within and across
  • sectors
  • understanding of organizational and leadership development and the ENGO landscape
  • personal creativity, judgment and vision
  • a high level of personal and professional integrity
  • strong skills in strategic thinking and planning, with an ability to identify challenges and
  • opportunities, create effective plans, and deliver results
  • self-directed, exceptional time management skills, and the ability to work independently
  • fundraising and development experience (including grant writing) within a non-profit
  • setting
  • demonstrated management and administrative skills in a not-for-profit setting, including
  • sound budgeting and financial management
  • experience and comfort implementing information technology, Internet and web
  • strategies
  • experience with non-traditional partners / cross-sectoral networks would be an asset
  • minimum Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of relevant work experience

Location: Downtown Toronto (215 Spadina Avenue at Queen) at the Sustainability
Network office located within Centre for Social Innovation.

The position starts January 5, 2009, with 3 days prior orientation.

Salary: $40 000 per annum
