The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health Promotion, has launched a sector engagement strategy on the topic of building local public health capacity in Ontario. A discussion paper has been developed as a tool for seeking stakeholder input on this subject. The discussion paper makes suggestions for what might be considered core characteristics of highly functioning and sustainable public health units, and proposes a range of strategies for building capacity where necessary. A web-based survey accompanies the paper in order to provide a forum for stakeholders to comment. The goal is to solicit thoughtful and informed input from public health stakeholders on how health unit capacity can be understood and strengthened in order to inform future policy development in this area. The survey period is from March 9th to April 3rd.
