Creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer. That's our vision and together, we can make it happen. Join our team of dedicated volunteers and staff to help us reach our goals.
Our Smokers' Helpline is a free, confidential, evidence-based cessation service, based in Hamilton and available by telephone and online across Ontario. Smokers' Helpline offers tips, tools and support to help with quitting smoking or other tobacco use. We currently have two openings, and are looking for a unilingual (English) individual and a bilingual (English/French) individual to join our team in these contract positions, ending March 31, 2011 (with the possibility of renewal).
Put your active listening and empathetic verbal and written communication skills to work, providing information and resources to smokers, their families, the general public, health-care professionals and community organizations. Working on the phone and as a moderator on an online discussion forum, you will provide counselling and support to callers seeking help about quitting smoking.
To be successful in this role, you must have a post-secondary education in a health or social services area, 2 years of experience working with clients in a counselling capacity (preferably counselling those with addictions and mental health issues), and knowledge of behaviour change theory. The ability to converse fluently in a clear, concise manner in all mediums is most essential. Database experience and solid keyboarding abilities are also required. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.
In return for your contributions, we offer a very attractive compensation package, which encompasses a salary in the mid-30K range, excellent benefits, including health and dental coverage, 3 weeks of vacation, and the chance to work in a supportive, caring environment. Qualified non-smokers are invited to send their resumes, quoting file #OH-007, by May 6, 2009, to:
