Giving Birth in a New Land – Strategies for Service Providers Working with Newcomers

Due to a high demand, the Best Start Resource Centre is pleased to offer service providers two additional workshops on "Giving Birth in a New Land - Strategies for Service Providers Working with Newcomers".

These half-day regional workshops support our manual by the same title and enable it to "come alive," with real-life examples and discussion. The objectives of this workshop are to

  1. Increase knowledge of the beliefs and practices of newcomer women.
  2. Provide strategies to help newcomer women and their families understand Ontario health practices.
  3. Discuss strategies that can be used by service providers, within their organizational mandate, to accommodate the needs of newcomer women and their families.

The workshops will take place in Newmarket on June 8th and in Ottawa on June 11th. The cost is $35 and includes lunch and the manual.

Registration is limited. We are expecting a high interest for these workshops, so we encourage you not to delay in registering. You can register online at

We also want to indicate that two additional training opportunities on this topic are planned for the fall: a half-day regional workshop in Waterloo and a webinar with a special focus for service providers located in Northern Ontario and rural communities. Additional information on these workshops will be available later this spring.
