Position Summary: 

Working closely with the Manager, Aboriginal Cancer & Prevention with Cancer Care Ontario's Population Health Unit, the Provincial Educator will fulfill the training and education component of the Aboriginal colorectal cancer resource toolkit titled: Let's take a stand against...Colorectal Cancer!" Strategies used in the provincial implementation will align with Cancer Care Ontario's and Regional Cancer Programs' priorities.

The Provincial Educator will work with the provincial office of Cancer Care Ontario and directly with Aboriginal communities within the province. The Provincial Educator will use  his/her expert training skills and knowledge of colorectal cancer risk factors, prevention and screening modalities to educate Aboriginal health care providers, using the Let's take a stand against...Colorectal Cancer!  toolkit as a basis. 

The Provincial Educator will ensure that implementation is targeted to meet the needs of Aboriginal frontline service providers working in these communities. The Provincial Educator will utilize his/her knowledge of Aboriginal healthcare systems and communities as leverage in creating new or building upon existing relationships with key community stakeholders, health professionals and frontline Aboriginal health workers to increase service providers' knowledge base, thereby increasing colorectal cancer screening participation in the Aboriginal population.


  • University degree in health/social sciences with a minimum of 2 years related experience especially working in/with Ontario's Aboriginal communities in the delivery of community-based education and awareness programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in health promotion and chronic disease prevention
  • Demonstrated understanding of the culture and social norms of Ontario's Aboriginal peoples and communities
  • High level of knowledge on the determinants of health in Ontario's Aboriginal population 
  • Experience or knowledge of both the federal and Ontario health systems
  • Strong facilitation and training skills and experience
  • Expert communications skills 
  • Strong project management experience with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build partnerships in both mainstream and Aboriginal communities
  • Aboriginal ancestry and ability to speak an Aboriginal language would be an asset
  • Specialized knowledge of Ontario's cancer system would be an asset
  • Specialized knowledge of Ontario's ColonCancerCheck program would be an asset
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office software applications

Salary Range:  commensurate with qualifications and experience
