SafeGrad is an initiative aimed at reducing harm due to drug and/or alcohol misuse for both students and those who may be affected by their choices. The SafeGrad Celebration Committee includes volunteers and professionals in health, business, law, education, and transportation. Our mission is to equip high school students with information, skills, peer support and community support to plan safer celebrations, not just for grad or prom but throughout the year. We work toward our mission by planning and hosting events, in particular the annual SafeGrad Workshop, which brings student leaders and planners together with representatives from a variety of agencies and services who are interested in helping students plan safer parties. November 19th, 2009, marked SafeGrad’s 17th annual workshop which brought high school students together from across our tri-county region of Elgin, Middlesex, and Oxford.
At this workshop, our new SafeGrad website was launched as a resource for students, parents, and the community regarding alcohol and other drugs as it relates to transportation, healthy relationships, liability, and party planning.
