Public Health Dietitian, Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires a temporary full-time Public Health Dietitian for the Public Health Unit for a period up to June 2011 to cover a temporary leave. Job # PHU 10-12. Job Description:

  • Develops implementation plans for nutrition programs and services
  • Plans, develops implements food and nutrition education campaigns and community events
  • Provides a food and nutrition advisory service to the public


  • Conducts presentations, workshops and in-service education for public health staff, staff of other agencies and groups
  • Organizes community education campaigns and events promoting healthy eating and healthy weights
  • Teaches the nutrition component of public health programs
  • Provides nutrition advice to individuals and families on sound food and nutrition practices
  • Interprets and conveys current scientific information regarding food, nutrition, diet and health for the public, professionals, group leaders and the media
  • Selects and/or develops, evaluates and updates food and nutrition education resources
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with health professionals, community groups, coalitions and agencies addressing food and nutrition-related issues
  • Serves on relevant community committees
  • Collaborates with other public health staff to provide expertise for the delivery of the nutrition components of mandatory programs
  • Serves on internal committees as required
  • Orients new public health staff, students and volunteers as requested
  • Attends staff conferences and relevant in-service education as scheduled, participates in educational courses and workshops to maintain and upgrade professional competency
  • Prepares administrative reports as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Baccalaureate degree in foods and nutrition from a recognized university, and completion of an accredited dietetic internship
  • Registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Previous experience in community or public health is an asset
  • Organizational, communication (oral and written), interpersonal, educational and counselling skills
  • Good computer skills in word processing and internet
  • Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish a Police Information Search (criminal reference check)
  • Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary


  • This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage range of $32.03 to $36.02, as per the C.U.P.E. collective agreement.
