Fundraising Coordinator, Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division

Job Purpose

Under the direction and guidance of the unit manager, the fundraising coordinator will be the primary resource in assisting the unit manager in every aspect of managing the various fundraising events (e.g. Residential, Daffodil Days, Great Ride ‘n’ Stride, etc.) and campaigns.

Duties & Responsibilities

Primary Functional Duties

  • Support the implementation of core community fundraising activities.
  • Work with the unit manager to develop an annual fundraising activity plan.
  • Provide regular updates on action plan deliverables, issues and/or changes.
  • Identify and assess opportunities to increase unit revenues and reduce fundraising expenses.
  • Forecast and order materials and incentives for fundraising events.
  • Provide reports to the unit manager for further review and evaluation.
  • Act as a fundraising support and resource for the unit office.
  • Work with fundraising leadership volunteers to support recruitment, placement, orientation and development of volunteers in accordance with established goals and objectives.
  • Collect pertinent information and when required enter data on various database applications.
  • Work with the unit manager to ensure the integrity of data entry completed by staff and volunteers.
  • Liaises with the appropriate staff on policy and other related fundraising topics.
  • Become familiarized with various accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance with Society’s cash management practices (e.g. receipting, banking, etc.).
  • Other projects as assigned.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations (Use or wear any protective equipment or devices required, report any incidents and unsafe conditions to your manager, and do not use equipment or work in any way that may endanger any worker or volunteer).
  • Review and comply with the Canadian Cancer Society’s health & safety policy.

Qualifications

  • Some post secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and direct experience.
  • Experience with fundraising events, campaigns and volunteers will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and on various tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be highly motivated and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and good judgement.
  • Flexibility to changing priorities and able to remain focused to meet targeted timelines.
  • Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook/Word/Excel) and use of databases.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Cancer Society policies and procedures is an asset.
  • Ability to travel within the region.  A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is preferred.
  • A criminal record check is required.
  • Non-smoker.

Working Conditions

  • Works as part of team of two fundraisers.
  • Regular/intermittent evening and weekend work (to participate in events and event planning activities).  Efforts should be made in conjunction with your manager to flex your time appropriately to minimize overtime.
  • Regular travel within the region is required.
  • Works outdoors and exposed to elements during key events.
  • Responds to inquiries from the general public (in person, on phone or via e-mail).
  • Works under tight deadlines.
  • Multiple priorities and interaction with many internal and external contacts.
