Description of Position:

Heart and Stroke Foundation BC & Yukon is seeking a Vice President, Research and Health Promotion to provide leadership to its research and health promotions activities. As the authoritative voice on heart disease and stroke, he/she will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating research and health promotion programs in accordance with the Foundation’s goal and objectives.

Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon is a volunteer-based health charity that leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke, and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living, and advocacy. A major funder of heart and stroke research in BC and Yukon and a major provider of health promotion programs with an overall program budget of approximately $6.5 million. Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President, Research and Health Promotion will both lead and administer the full research and health promotion program of Heart and Stroke BC and Yukon, and be the public face for the Foundation. The Vice President provides overall management and strategic direction to the Foundation’s research and health promotion programs and patient support initiatives, and will play a major role in the development of the overall strategic plan. Acts as staff support to the Research Advisory Committee and other ad hoc task forces or working groups. Provides leadership to a diverse team in implementing the strategic plan, driving operational and strategic excellence and strengthening linkages with Heart and Stroke partners, governments, volunteers, supporters, donors and community stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree or related experience in science and/or health promotion. Demonstrated commitment to, and experience in, improving public health in Canada. He/she will have extensive knowledge of the research, health promotion and funding environment, and will bring broad experience in strategic planning and in leadership in a complex organization.
