MENTAL HEALTH PROMOTION SPECIALIST

(3 – 4 days per week, 12 Month Contract)

 

CMHA, Ontario, is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals with mental illness and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario.

We are seeking an experienced individual to represent CMHA Ontario on provincial projects for the promotion of positive mental health.  You will support the development of mental health promotion tools and resources to support healthy communities, comprehensive school health and after school program projects already underway.   You will foster a developing community of practice (CoP) for CMHA public educators / mental health promotion specialists, with support from our IT department to initiate web based tools.  You will convene and resource working groups arising from the CoP to address various mental health needs and opportunities. You will also identify new opportunities and initiate emerging roles to advance mental health promotion in Ontario. 

We are seeking an experienced individual with training in health promotion, social work, behavioural sciences or adult education. Familiarity with mental health issues and mental health promotion is essential. Knowledge of health promotion strategies; as well as familiarity with programs which address mental health literacy, public education and reducing stigma. Demonstrated ability to recommend and build capacity for using evidence-based approaches to promote mental health throughout the lifespan, with an initial focus on children and youth, as well as incorporate the broad determinants of health as they impact mental health. Experience in project management, program planning  and curriculum development is preferred.

This is a contract for a maternity leave, with attendance in Toronto for meetings expected. Secondments will be considered. We encourage applications from all individuals with relevant experience, including people with lived experience and family members.
