Public Health Inspector, Environmental Health
The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Public Health Inspector position on the Environmental Health Team, within Environmental Health and Chronic Disease Prevention Services. Public Health Inspectors are responsible for delivering comprehensive environmental health programs in the community in the areas of prevention, enforcement, promotion, protection, education, and research. The protection of individual and community wellness will require the application of a variety of professional and technical skills in health protection, health promotion and law enforcement activities. Duties may relate to drinking water, food safety, health hazard investigation, rabies, vector borne diseases, inspection of pools and spas, enforcing applicable municipal bylaws (e.g. Idling Control bylaw) and community presentations.
This position requires a four year Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Health and certification as a Public Health Inspector by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI); candidates writing qualifying examinations may be considered for employment after certification. Candidates must also have a valid Ontario driver’s licence and use of a reliable vehicle. Applicants
should also have basic computer skills in the areas of documentation, MS Office and database software, as well as very good oral and written communication skills, and familiarity with the Provincial Legislation concerning Public Health and the Ontario Public Health Standards and Protocols. Previous related work experience and the ability to communicate in French or other languages would be
considered an asset.
