Kingston Community Health Centres is presently recruiting permanent, locum and casual Physicians to work at our various clinics. These opportunities are open to internal and external applicants. Internal applicants will be considered first.

Position Title: Physician
Location: NKCHC
Position Type: Permanent, Part Time (21 hours per week)
Start Date: Fall 2012

Position Summary:

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, KCHC Physicians deliver high quality primary care and promote healthy lifestyle choices for the residents of the Kingston community. They address issues within the Social Determinants of Health that affect the community.

Specific Responsibilities:

Client Services

  • Provide family-centred primary care to KCHC clients, which takes into account environmental, social, psychological and medical risk factors in a manner which can be understood by the clientand, when applicable, their families;
  • Work with and refer to other members of the multidisciplinary care team, ensuring clients receive comprehensive, competent and appropriate health care;
  • See and assess clients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment during the hours of service scheduled by KCHC, at both on and off-site locations, provide home visits as required;
  • Share on call duties with others at KCHC and other physician groups, ensuring that medical care is available to Health Centre clients outside of normal hours of operation.
  • Be accessible by seeing clients, as required, when on call and to keep other physicians informed with problems arising when on call.
  • Use other health care resources (e.g. consultants, hospital facilities) in a manner that makes the most effective use of resources to benefit clients;
  • Provide consultation and support to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and others, as appropriate;
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of medical protocols and directives;

Administrative Duties

  • Assist in the planning and programming of Centre health services through participation on committees and by sharing information about identified health needs and problems in the community obtained through client encounters;
  • Participate in committee work and staff meetings, as personal interest and Health Centre needs indicate;
  • Identify areas where development of protocols and procedures is needed to improve client services or to promote more effective staff functioning;
  • Participate in chart reviews and case conferences, making referrals as needed;
  • Record encounters, including telephone and other encounters, as appropriate for data entry and analysis

  • Supports active learning, including training and development for staff, support of KCHC student and volunteer placements, and maintaining personal competence through professional development and training as required by KCHC.
  • Works during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre.
  • On occasion, other temporary duties may be required.


  • Medical Degree from a recognized university;
  • CCFP Certification
  • General license to practice from the College of Physicians &Surgeons of Ontario;
  • Three plus years primary care experience, community health setting experience considered anasset;
  • Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, an asset;
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications;
  • Awareness of, and ability to support, provincial and federal privacy regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Excellent organizational skills and above average attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being a “team player”.
