The School Health program requires a creative, self-starting and persuasive leader who can build and maintain strong relationships in order to coordinate a range of Public Health initiatives in a group of schools across Peel Region. The individual must work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative team environment to promote and deliver services using Peel Public Health’s Healthy Schools Approach. Key responsibilities include: promoting and coordinating the Peel Public Health’s Healthy Schools Approach for school-age children (primarily in the school setting); promoting collaborative relationships between Public Health, schools, parents and the community; and participating in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives which support Departmental strategic priorities. Examples of job activities (corresponding to the responsibilities listed above) may include: clearly communicate with superintendents, principals and other groups to outline and promote Peel Health services to schools; building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners to help identify and meet the health needs of Peel’s school-aged children; mentoring school staff and community partners in the use of the Healthy Schools Approach that promotes sustainability, and supporting schools and other external partners in identifying health promotion approaches based on the best available evidence.
