As an integral member of the Tuberculosis team, you will be involved in supporting individuals and families affected by tuberculosis, including the delivery of Directly Observed Therapy (DOT). You will visit clients to deliver medication and to observe medication ingestion, assess for side effects, promote adherence to TB treatment and help the client understand TB. DOT activities also include identifying social, cultural and economic barriers that may prevent clients from completing the treatment plan and facilitating referrals to appropriate community resources. You will liaise with the Public Health Nurse (PHN) to provide and receive updates on clients’ progress, medication side effects or potential side effects and non-compliance issues with treatment program and/or clarification of medical information. You will liaise with physician offices regarding clients’ appointments and status of progress reports. You may also liaise with community partners/agencies and may provide TB presentations. You may accompany clients to their TB medical appointments as required. You may participate in discharge planning and case conferences at West Park Health Care Centre or local hospitals as required.
