RFP--Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Barriers and Facilitators Research, Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit

The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit has been facilitating the Healthy Communities movement in Haldimand and Norfolk since the fall of 2009.  The Healthy Communities Partnership Haldimand and Norfolk (HCPHN) is bringing together and mobilizing people and organizations working toward healthy, vibrant, safe, strong and connected communities. Through this process many community partners have expressed an interest in community food security and there has been momentum in creating a Food Policy Council.

In addition, the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit has undertaken a comprehensive review of all of its programs and services. Through this service review three priority gaps were identified, two of which were related to food security:
Food skills development and healthy eating practices for priority populations
Implementing a comprehensive healthy weights strategy

The Healthy Communities Partnership Haldimand and Norfolk is seeking a consultant to plan and conduct research on the barriers and facilitators of fruit and vegetable consumption in Haldimand and Norfolk. This will include a more thorough evaluation of the literature, proposing methodology and target population, collection of data, cleaning and analysis of data and a written report outlining the findings.


  • A more thorough evaluation of the literature, provided by the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and provide a summary document of findings
  • Propose methodology and target population, including sampling strategies
  • Work with Health Unit staff to prepare local ethics application
  • Develop any tools required (e.g. surveys, spreadsheets, data dictionary etc.)
  • Collect data using methodology approved by Health Unit ethics committee
  • Develop a strategy for data security
  • Entry, cleaning and analysis of data
  • Provide a written report of the findings
