Public Health Nurse, Child Health Program’s Breastfeeding Team, Region of Peel

Temporary Duration:  Approximately twelve (12) months

The Child Health Program’s Breastfeeding Team requires a self-directed and enthusiastic individual to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Telephone assessment, counselling, education, support and referral to community resources to clients directed to the Breastfeeding Contact Centre
  • Client assessment, counselling and support to breastfeeding mothers at Peel Public Health breastfeeding clinics and at home visits
  • Providing service to clients as a member of a focused team
  • Delivering client education and other health promotion information to diverse groups
  • Consulting and maintaining linkages with other health professionals and agencies
  • Providing service to Peel’s diverse multicultural community
  • Working with relevant computer information systems


  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent accreditation recognized by the Employer
  • A current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Specialized knowledge, skill and experience in the area of breastfeeding
  • Experience in delivering service in a Public Health setting to families with children 0-6 years of age
  • Knowledge, skill and experience in the area of child and reproductive health
  • Knowledge, skill and experience in evidence informed decision making, health promotion strategies, community development and project management
  • Strong computer skills to use specific data bases, website research and content development for regional website and experience in electronic documentation
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational, assessment, planning, implementation, facilitation, problem solving, presentation and evaluation skills
  • Understanding of Peel’s diverse community including clients and community agencies

Compensation: As per the Collective Agreement
Location: 7120 Hurontario St. Mississauga, ON
Hours of work: 35 hours/weekly
