KFL&A Public Health, an accredited local public health agency affiliated with Queen’s University, serves to promote and protect the health of more than 180,000 residents of the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington area. The Knowledge Management Division has an immediate opening for a Web Application Developer.

The Knowledge Management Division is at the leading edge of emerging e-health and surveillance solutions designed both to transform the experience of public health service delivery and public health threat detection. Strategically, a key focus of our Team is to redesign, expand, and deploy a web-based solution for real-time syndromic surveillance to monitor for and detect threats to public health from a variety of data feeds. We seek a seasoned web application developer to lead the development of the end-user interface.

The Application Developer is responsible for successfully designing, configuring, and supporting the effective implementation of highly integrated and scalable e-health software solutions. He/she will also participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle from analysis of customer functional requirements and the definition of corresponding technical specifications through to design, build, and test, on to deployment, and the provision of first-level support. Technologies used include: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, jQuery, XML, D3js, Google Maps JavaScript API, Java EE technologies, and SQL Server.

The successful candidate will have a Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical degree and have 2-5 years of software development experience with strong object-oriented programming and design patterns experience. Experience with application development for mobile devices including tablets and smartphones and using cloud computing services, RESTful service oriented architectures, and web mapping/GIS APIs is an asset.
