Reporting to Scientist, Environmental and Occupational Health, the Research Coordinator will serve as the principal operational liaison between the research investigators in an environmental health study, provide project coordination and assist with the conduct of research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares periodic progress reports as required by the principal investigator and funding agency; co-ordinates logistics and monitors the progress of research activities; and develops and maintains records of research activities
  • Develops drafts and contributes to the writing and submission of manuscripts, conference abstracts, and technical reports.
  • Assists with the development of research grant applications as directed by the principal investigator, this may include undertaking literature reviews, providing syntheses and critical appraisal of existing evidence of research, drafting protocols and analytic sections, appendices and budgets, and coordinating grant submission process.
  • Applies quantitative research methodologies to the collection, analysis and interpretation of study data.
  • Completes statistical analysis including descriptive and inferential analyses; summarizes results in tabular and graphical form for use in manuscripts, PowerPoint presentations, and other reporting formats.
  • Undertakes literature reviews and provides syntheses and critical appraisal of existing evidence of research standards, contributes to the design of research standards, and develops summaries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills    

  • Excellent writing and editing skills to prepare reports, manuscripts and grant proposals with scientific rigour.
  • Knowledge and skills in epidemiologic research in the area of environmental health and chronic disease.
  • Knowledge of biostatistics methods and principles; ability to interpret statistical results and tables; demonstrated experience and proficiency with common statistical packages, such as R and/or SAS.
  • Effective project management, research, analytical skills in order to support the work of expert advisory panels and other project-specific committees as needed.
  • Planning, organizing, project management skills and initiative in order to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal, teamwork and relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistics and modeling such as survival analysis is an asset.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree or higher in epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, or related discipline.
  • Three to five years of experience supporting research at an academic department, research institute or organization.
