Introduction to LGBTQ Health: Inclusive Practices and Language, Rainbow Health Ontario

Rainbow Health Ontario’s training and education sessions are designed to assist health and social service providers in providing equitable and comprehensive services to LGBTQ people. Using a combination of presentations, videos, interactive exercises, group discussions, and case scenarios, this workshop will allow participants to:

  • Explore global perspectives on sexual and gender diversity
  • Become more knowledgeable about the history of the LGBTQ movement
  • Distinguish between assigned sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation and sexual behaviour
  • Clarify commonly used language related to LGBTQ identities and communities
  • Increase their awareness of health disparities and barriers to accessing care affecting LGBTQ communities
  • Understand the impact of homo/bi/transphobia on the emotional and mental health of LGBTQ persons
  • Learn culturally competent practices and strategies to provide good care, individually and organizationally
