Call for Input! Help Co-design a New Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges

Deadline April 30, 2015

Renewal, Design, Activation

As part of the upcoming International Conference on Health Promoting Universities and Colleges a new International Charter will be co-designed to inspire future action around the world on campuses and beyond. The new Okanagan Charter will be developed through networking and critical dialogue prior and during the conference. The new Charter will shape a conference outcome that is meaningful for moving forward in the context of other key developments such as the Post-2015 Development Agenda and Health in All Policies, and initiatives such as Healthy Cities. A post-conference dissemination strategy will support activation of the Charter globally.

About the Charter

The Charter is intended to guide and inspire action for practice, research and policy. It will embrace a holistic view of health and recognize all campus members as part of healthy campus communities, including students, staff and academics. It will also take a broad, systemic approach to creating health promoting universities and institutions of higher education reflecting current thinking and literature in health promotion.

Themes, values, concepts, and action strategies that emerge from the participatory charter development process will shape the Charter document.

Ways to Contribute

We invite you to contribute in the following ways prior to the conference:

  • Complete the pre-conference survey that will inform the charter development process and document. The survey is open until April 30.
  • Submit suggestions of experts in the field to be interviewed by the Charter Working Group. These interviews will help inform the Charter themes, content and process. Email Tara Black at tblack@sfu.ca or Sharon Doherty at SHDoherty@uclan.ac.uk.
