The Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM) is seeking a Policy Analyst during an exciting period of growth, challenge and opportunity for midwifery in Ontario. The AOM is committed to the expansion of midwifery and to supporting both Registered Midwives and Aboriginal Midwives in the provision of optimal care that is responsive to the needs of women and clients and to their families and newborns.
The Policy Analyst will focus on researching issues, crafting possible solutions, recommending responses and interventions and working with members and stakeholders to implement action plans.
At this time, we are specifically seeking a candidate with:
- knowledge of human rights and pay equity legislation
- a demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret legislation
- a proven-track record in reviewing legal contracts and providing interpretive advice
The Policy Analyst will be responsible for project co-ordination, research, analysis, writing and advocacy on various issues related to midwifery compensation and working conditions. S/he must have an understanding of the role of midwives in Ontario and of maternal and newborn health within Ontario and the current health care transformation agenda.
In addition to possessing specific content knowledge, the ideal candidate will be able to: develop and conduct consultations with members and stakeholders; work closely with members and provide support to Committees and Work Groups; and write proposals and reports.
Reporting to the Policy and Communications Manager, the ideal candidate requires excellent analytical, leadership and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must possess sound judgment, think strategically, demonstrate an understanding of working within an Association or union environment and have a sophisticated understanding of the current political environment.
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree, a law degree, or equivalent.
