An Exciting Opportunity

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Cancer Prevention, the Senior Coordinator, Cancer Prevention is responsible for promoting and advancing the Society’s mission, role and priorities related to primary and secondary cancer prevention with key internal and external stakeholders.  Specifically, this position will work to support provincial initiatives as well as enhance staff and volunteer capacity within assigned regions to develop, implement and deliver cancer prevention-related activities.

The assigned regions for this position include the Society’s Southwestern and Central West Regions. The position will be based out of the Society’s Elgin Middlesex community office in London, Ontario.

Primary Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Cancer Prevention team, coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of provincial, regional and local cancer prevention initiatives and activities
  • Act as a resource and consultant to enhance knowledge and awareness related to cancer-related risk factors for staff, volunteers and the public (e.g. healthy eating and physical activity, cancer screening, environmental and occupational carcinogens, UVR and sun safety)
  • Support the development, review, revision and integration of cancer prevention messaging within Society materials, initiatives and publications
  • Support internal capacity building with staff and volunteers within the Society’s South Central region to promote and integrate prevention priorities and messages into community materials, initiatives and activities
  • Liaise, develop relationships and work with other departments within the Society to better integrate prevention messaging
  • Assist with prevention planning and community engagement for under-served communities and/or priority populations
  • Represent the department and/or the Society at external meetings and committees, roundtables and conferences, workgroups and networks
  • Works in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, and complies with the Society’s Health & Safety Policy
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Related post-secondary education in the field of health promotion, community development or social work or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 2+ years’ experience working within a non-profit or community service setting, experience in a multi-level, non-profit organization is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion approaches and strategies related to cancer prevention and screening
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, strategic thinking and communication skills
  • Dynamic presentation and public relations skills
  • Strong ability to problem-solve and reach sound resolutions
  • Strong initiative and capacity to work independently, balanced with teamwork
  • Flexibility and the ability to deal with competing priorities
  • Proficient in MSOffice (Word/Excel)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Cancer Society policies and procedures is an asset
  • Access to a vehicle is strongly preferred
  • A criminal record check is required
  • Non-smoker

Working Conditions

  • Office environment with occasional requirements to work outside of regular office hours
  • Occasional day/overnight travel
