Renewed Scientific Journal: Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada: Research, Policy and Practice

The Public Health Agency of Canada's scientific bilingual journal Chronic Diseases and Injuries in Canada has undergone renewal and has been renamed Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada: Research, Policy and Practice in order to better reflect the current breadth of the journal content. The scope of articles (disease prevention, health promotion and health equity in the areas of chronic diseases, injuries and life course health) remains the same.

Going forward, the journal will place greater emphasis on collaborative research and analysis between government and external researchers, a range of public health practitioners, health policy planners and related professionals.

As part of its aim to increase policy relevant and intervention-related evidence that can help inform policy and practice decisions, the journal has expanded its types of articles to include evidence syntheses and evidence briefs, qualitative and mixed methods studies, and intervention studies, as well as a section called "At-a-Glance", which allows for quick statistics updates from the latest surveillance analyses. Starting in March 2015, the journal began publishing monthly online (only) issues.

The journal is also demonstrating its responsiveness to a need for increased mobilization for uptake and impact. We will be promoting and sharing published findings through professional social networking sites, webinars and social media platforms.

We are also pleased to be working in collaboration with various stakeholders on theme issues for the journal on the topics of child maltreatment, health equity, built environment/active transportation and mood and anxiety disorders in 2015-16.

The first issue under the new name and publication model is now live and available. Click here to access it: Enjoy!
