KFL&A Public Health, an accredited local public health agency affiliated with Queen’s University, serves to promote and protect the health of more than 180,000 residents of the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington area. The Public Health Informatics Team has an immediate opening for a Data Integration Specialist.
The Informatics Team is at the leading edge of emerging e-health and surveillance solutions designed both to transform the experience of public health service delivery and public health threat detection. Strategically, a key focus of our Team is to design and deploy a web-based solution to enable a real-time understanding of environmental health conditions that may impact public health using a variety of data feeds including environmental sensors and web services from partner agencies.
The Data Integration Specialist is responsible for working closely with our partners and clients to design and implement solutions that facilitate the real-time exchange of surveillance and other public health data. They will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from analysis of customer functional requirements and definition of corresponding technical specifications through to design, build, and test, on to deployment and the provision of first-level support.
The successful candidate will have a Software Engineering or Computer Science degree or equivalent and have 5 years of data integration and software development experience with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design patterns. Experience working with high volume “always on” real-time data feeds and ETL processes as well as experience working with very large databases (VLDBs) is preferred. Database design and administration experience is also preferred. Cloud computing experience is considered an asset.
