Health Promoter (2015-5361), Health Services – Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Region of Peel

*Contract Duration: approximately thirteen (13) months
 
The Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Division requires a creative, self-starting and persuasive leader with experience in developing and evaluating health promotion initiatives and programs
 
Responsibilities:

  • Work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment
  • Responsible for program planning and evaluation; analyzing and interpreting data for evaluation purposes
  • Prepare and submit reports
  • Conduct internet searches for research purposes
  • Provide recommendations based on the best available evidence found
  • Responsible for supporting the school health teams using the Healthy Schools Approach
  • Proactively identify emerging trends and issues in the school community and provide evidence informed analysis, briefings and recommendations to influence strategic initiatives and policy development
  • Utilize evidence informed decision making methodology and the Public Health Core Competencies framework

 Qualifications:

  • University degree in Health Promotion or related health field
  • 3 to 5 years related experience
  • Demonstrated skills in evidence informed decision making, program planning and evaluation
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data
  • Ability to conduct internet searches for research purposes
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in applying health promotion principles and strategies
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Ability to persuasively communicate complex health messages and information in everyday language in both spoken and written forms
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across the organization
  • Strong critical thinking and leadership skills
  • Strong facilitation, organizational, project management, problem solving and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Healthy Schools Approach
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; MS Access, MS Projects, SPSS or other epidemiological tools would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Peel’s diverse community

Compensation: Band 6 - as per Non-Union Salary Structure plus comprehensive benefit package
Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga
Hours of work: 35 hours/week – Monday through Friday
