Health Promoter (2015-5376), Health Services – Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Region of Peel

Team Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Peel Action Team for Health youth group to advance tobacco program priorities
  • Work collaboratively with the Central East Tobacco Control Area Network (CE-TCAN) Youth Development Specialist and Youth Engagement Coordinators to meet Smoke-free Ontario strategy program guidelines
  • Facilitate youth engagement in identifying and defining health issues using community mobilization and community assessment skills
  • Apply health promotion principles and strategies to policy development and program implementation in collaboration with appropriate staff, community partners, and youth

General Responsibilities:

  • Work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment
  • Apply knowledge regarding concepts of population health status, inequities in health, determinants of health, and strategies for health protection and promotion to guide practice
  • Utilize research evidence and apply critical appraisal skills to inform policies, programs and practice
  • Develop recommendations on future programming based on analysis and synthesis of evidence
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs and strategies using End to End Public Health practice (i.e. EIDM, PPE, performance measurement)
  • Advocate for and contribute to the development of healthy public policy
  • Demonstrate culturally sensitive approaches and strategies with diverse populations
  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders in the community and liaise with internal and external departments, agencies, and organizations
  • Develop and facilitate intersectoral partnerships and networks using team building, negotiation, conflict management and group facilitation
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit reports as required
  • Promote awareness of the Region of Peel and Public Health services
  • Perform other duties as assigned which support the organizational goals

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Health Promotion or related health field
  • A minimum of one year related experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Knowledge of the Smoke-free Ontario Act and tobacco prevention
  • Knowledge of key theoretical models of health education, health promotion and community mobilization
  • Political awareness, tact and diplomacy are essential skills
  • Demonstrated ability in multisectoral relationship building
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data
  • Excellent understanding of population health principles
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong critical thinking and leadership skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Flexible and able to adapt to an ongoing changing environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
  • A willingness to travel to various locations and work some evenings and weekends

Compensation: Band 6 - As per Non-Union Salary Structure plus comprehensive benefits
Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga
Hours of work: 35 hours/week Monday-Friday (occasional evening and weekend shifts required)
