Community Planner, Peel Children and Youth Initiative

Contract Position: Community Planner, Full time (One year renewable)

Peel Children and Youth Initiative (PCYI) is working to develop effective, integrated and aligned community planning tables to focus on issues and opportunities for children and youth in Peel (ages 0-24), using the “Systems Integration Framework” (SIF). The SIF was developed with significant community input and is now in practice through the creation of two new age-specific planning tables and alignment efforts between existing planning tables under the framework. The work in 2015-2016 will focus on implementing and evolving the framework by aligning planning, research and facilitating work on shared priorities.
Skills and Qualifications:  

  1. Graduate level (preferred) with a post-secondary degree in political science, psychology, social policy, or related field
  2. Minimum of 5yrs experience in community, or health planning; or related work  
  3. Very strong writing, communication and presentation skills; detail oriented
  4. Strong facilitation skills with a keen appreciation and awareness of process
  5. A strong knowledge of community development processes
  6. Ability to review, synthesize research and policy documents
  7. Some understanding of existing community service providers in Peel (ages 0-24)
  8. Demonstrated skill in leading and managing projects; meeting deadlines
  9. Daily access to an automobile

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

The work of the Community Planner will at a minimum include the following:   

  • Providing reports and updates to the Executive Director as requested (direct report)
  • Supporting the development of the System Integration’s vision
  • Building support for the alignment of work and priorities with new and existing planning tables
  • Effective meeting support, agenda development and meeting facilitation
  • Doing presentations (oral and written) to support engagement among partner organizations
  • Supporting the Communications efforts of the SIF and PCYI
  • Supporting the research and evaluation efforts aligned with the SIF
  • Supports the facilitation of community forums; special event planning
  • Facilitates community forums; synthesizing results; doing analysis and summaries

Supporting the priorities and work of PCYI as required; other duties as shall be assigned
Hours of Work:  Regular business hours are weekdays 8:30am-4:30pm however staff are expected to work outside of these hours as required.  

Salary:  Salary will be negotiated based on experience (Salary range:  $65k – $80K Full time)
