192 Spadina Ave. (Meeting Room D)
Join us for a candid conversation with Sustainable Prosperity’s Executive Director Mike Wilson, discussing his perspectives on the green economy.
As the federal government works alongside the provinces to develop a climate action plan to build a prosperous, low-carbon economy and sustainable environment in tandem, NGOs have a seat at the table and an important role to play in guiding the implementation and vision of this strategy. With ambitious climate targets coming out of COP21 and Canada’s own 2030 targets to uphold, the task before us as Canadians will require the concerted and committed effort of all sectors to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C.
At GLOBE 2016, Sustainable Prosperity launched an initiative alongside Prime Minister Trudeau called Smart Prosperity, calling for “new thinking” and rejecting the false choice between a healthy environment and healthy economy. While Sustainable Prosperity’s vision for a stronger, cleaner economy sets bold sights on what’s possible, Canada has a long way to go before the vision meets reality. What market-based approaches and innovations will be necessary to make a meaningful shift towards a green economy while ensuring our economic prosperity? What challenges will we inevitably face and what opportunities must be seized and how quickly in order for Canada to thrive while achieving ambitious and crucial climate targets?
Join us for a discussion between Executive Director of Sustainable Prosperity Mike Wilson and Mike Morrice, Executive Director of Sustainability CoLab, where Mike Wilson will offer his personal insights as one of Canada’s sustainability thought-leaders and ‘behind the scenes’ policy strategists, exploring how he reconciles the urgency to transform our economy with the often incremental pace of change and political complexities that can slow the transition to a low-carbon economy.
