The Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) supports system-level coordination of the development, implementation and monitoring of evidence-informed practices for mental health and addictions services in Ontario and facilitates knowledge exchange. Core functions of the program include: knowledge exchange and communications; supporting the implementation of evidence-informed programs and practices; and understanding and evaluating efforts through performance measurement and implementation research. The CAMH Health Promotion Resource Centre (HPRC) is situated within PSSP at CAMH and works with diverse internal and external stakeholders to promote the use of evidence in decision-making, develop targeted knowledge translation products and tools, and supports interactive exchanges regarding mental health promotion and substance use. CAMH HPRC is Ontario’s source for health promotion evidence regarding mental health and substance use and works to build capacity in health promotion, public health and allied health professionals. CAMH HPRC works to promote the use of research evidence in health promotion programming, policy and planning by translating research and expertise from within the CAMH as well as externally. Reporting to the Supervisor, CAMH HPRC, the Knowledge Broker will play a key role in achieving deliverables and responding to system-level requests regarding mental health promotion, prevention and substance use in Ontario’s mental health and addictions system and provide coordination and leadership within this context. The application of innovative, timely and responsive methods to identify and communicate best practices/proven strategies is an essential element of this role. The candidate will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. The position is located at 33 Russell Street in Toronto and may involve some travel within the GTA and/or in Ontario.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop knowledge syntheses (e.g.: rapid reviews, literature reviews and environmental scans) as well as other knowledge products that are responsive to the decision-making needs of health care decision makers, policy makers, and other MHA providers across Ontario
- Provide information on evidence-based, best practice programming in order to facilitate delivery of effective health promotion and prevention initiatives regarding mental health and substance use at local, regional and provincial levels
- Provide and coordinate other research, analysis and evaluation efforts as required
- Provide strategic advice and support to system partners with respect to their mental health and substance use priorities
- Support knowledge exchange activities in collaboration with internal and external partners
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, Knowledge Translation Research or a related discipline with a minimum of two (2) years’ related experience. Experience includes management of complex projects; facilitation of groups; adult education and training; development of work plans, budgets and communication plans; as well as literature search, quality appraisal, applicability assessment and interpretation, and development of literature reviews/ rapid reviews. The candidate should be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills and have a secure knowledge of health promotion principles and practices. Familiarity with mental health promotion and substance misuse prevention is required, and professional experience in this area is preferred. Understanding of knowledge exchange conceptual models, frameworks and strategies and experience with a range of knowledge exchange methods and products (e.g. workshops, online collaborative spaces, infographics) with demonstrated ability to research, analyze and develop knowledge exchange options and strategies would be considered an asset. Experience working within research and/or government environments is considered an asset. You will have demonstrated skills in project management, time management, interpersonal communication, and problem solving. Strong oral and written communication skills; and the ability to manage a diverse task load are required. You must be proficient in web-based tools and MS Office software, including spreadsheet and presentation applications, and comfortable with web and social media technologies to foster engagement. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and possess the ability for self-directed learning, but is also able to collaborate well with team members with excellent networking, leadership, relationship building, interpersonal and listening skills to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and to facilitate the development of partnerships. Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health and the principles of health equity and how they apply in the context of evidence and knowledge exchange. Bilingualism (French/English) is preferred.
