This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cancer Control Division of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer in the role of Specialist, Person-Centred Perspective. The vision of Person-Centred Perspective (PCP) Portfolio is strategically focused on improving the patient experience across Canada. It speaks to a culture shift in cancer care delivery that needs to move from doing things ‘for’ and ‘to’ patients to one that collaborates with patients and families. The Portfolio has significant projects targeting specific areas of the cancer system improvement and cancer control within the new Strategic Plan themes of Quality, Equity, Seamless Patient Experience, Maximize Data Impact and Sustainable System. The PCP initiatives are integral to partnerships with provincial, territorial and cancer systems leaders working to improve the quality of cancer care delivered to Canadians when they are transitioning to primary care and during delivery of quality palliative and end of life care. The Specialist will see these initiatives through all phases of the procurement, RFP, implementation, evaluation, sustainability and reporting cycles
Overview of Role
The Specialist, Person-Centred Perspective, is accountable to develop and execute programs designed to improve and contribute to the overall patient experience with a focus on palliative and End-of-Life Care (PEOLC) and Primary Care Integration. As the content lead responsible for subject matter expertise in these areas, the Specialist will work in collaboration with the Director, Senior Scientific Leader, Expert Leads, internal staff, external partners, advisory groups and patient and family representatives to successful delivery of the PCP program initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- A Master’s degree preferably in health care related discipline (Social Work, Nursing, OT, etc) or related field (such as a MBA with health care experience)
- A minimum of 5-7 years experience networking with a range of partners, organizations and stakeholders in cancer control and supporting the development and implementation of multi-site, provincial/national level projects
- Experience in research, clinical practice and senior project management
- Extensive knowledge of the issues related to the cancer patient experience from diagnosis to palliative and end-of-life care for patients, caregivers, families and health care providers, health system leaders
- Strong knowledge of palliative care programs, primary care, community services and patient/family supportive care
- Strong relationship management skills, internal and external, with partner organizations, professional groups and related organizations
- Strong mentoring, facilitation, coaching and knowledge-sharing skills
- Ability to interact and work effectively colleagues and staff
- Excellent research, analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills
- Proven project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including ability to proactively lead and respond to change
- Excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience of health sector issues/challenges, preferably cancer
- Experience in not-for-profit sector is an asset, particularly in health or cancer care organization
