Position: Non-Union, Assistant – Self Management Program: One (1) Full Time
Hours: Days/Evenings, 8 Hours (Subject to change based on operational needs)

Job Summary: The Central West Self‐Management Program provides self-management education and skills training to health service providers and people living with, or at risk for chronic conditions. The Program Assistant supports the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Self-Management program. This position involves both administrative work as well as community engagement work. Part of the time is spent in the office while the other part is spent engaging with the community through various channels. Candidates must be proficient with office administrative tasks as well as comfortable speaking in front of groups, engaging with a variety of people. The Program Assistant works closely with the Self-Management Coordinators to help build collaborative partnerships with numerous individuals and groups: healthcare providers, people living with and at risk of chronic conditions, community organizations, primary care etc. Strong communication, organizational and planning skills are required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the manager of the Chronic Disease Self -Management program
  • Scheduling of workshops, speakers, rooms, volunteers, food for events, and technical support for seminars
  • Engagement of community partners and program promotion
  • Public speaking and presentations
  • Addresses program inquiries via phone, email, and in person
  • Produces marketing materials including: calendar of events, flyers and advertisements
  • Compiles summary of feedback from events and creates reports
  • Inputs evaluation data
  • Tracking of budget/funding allocation of all seminars and expenses; invoicing
  • Distribution of marketing materials to various health care and community sites within the region
  • Ordering supplies and inventory


  • Certificate or degree in office business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in health promotion and working with a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to compile, write and present reports
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule events
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in use of windows based computer systems and software including but not limited to Microsoft
  • Proficient in the use of other office and presentation equipment
  • Ability to set priorities and cope with a demanding environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Regular attendance is a requirement for this position
  • Occasional evening and early morning hours and travel to external locations
