With National Addictions Awareness Week around the corner (November 13-19), Peel Public Health is launching a new resource which helps parents increase their knowledge and skill in talking with their children about drugs. The Talk about Drugs online parent modules are a five-part series that teach parents simple, practical strategies for talking with their children about drugs and related risks and harms. These strategies also help parents build resiliency in their children. The goal of the modules is to facilitate conversations about drugs between parents/guardians and their children in order to reduce substance misuse among children in Peel.
Check out the free and interactive modules at http://talkaboutdrugs.ca which feature:
- information about drugs, such as alcohol and marijuana;
- strategies to build healthy families and resilient children;
- strategies to promote open and honest discussions with children based on their age and developmental stage; and
- signs that may point to potential drug use.
