Economic Literacy for Environmental Leaders: Government Budgets As If Sustainability Mattered, Sustainability Network

May 18, 2017

1:00-2:00 p.m.

Government budgets report on spending and revenue. Yet they usually fail to report on built capital, human capital, and natural capital. These forms of capital are necessary for sustainability since this capital provides for future well being.

This webinar will focus on how capital relates to sustainability and government budgets and will suggest that future budgets include a balance sheet that identifies changes in capital thus allowing citizens to evaluate a government’s performance on sustainability.

One hour before the webinar begins registrants will be emailed a 2 page brief (PDF) that Eric has prepared.

Our primary presenter is Eric Miller. He is a consulting economist and contract faculty at York University. He has experience serving the Ontario and Federal governments and is an active member of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics.

We'll also hear from Andrew Van Iterson from the Green Budget Coalition for an additional perspective.  We will then open up the discussion to include all participants.
