Assessing a ban on the use of UV tanning equipment among adolescents in Ontario, Canadian Cancer Society

June 28, 2017
12:00 to 1:00 p.m. EST

Presented by the Ontario Sun Safety Working Group
The new Skin Cancer Prevention Act (Tanning Beds), 2013, which bans the use of tanning beds by youth under 18 years of age, came into effect in May, 2014. To determine if the Act has impacted adolescents reporting use of tanning equipment, two surveys were conducted one year apart: the first immediately before the Act came into effect, and the second one year later. Register for this webinar to learn about the results of these two surveys, the implications for reducing indoor tanning for youth, and recommendations for how the provisions in the act can be enforced to ensure the intended outcomes are achieved.

  • Host: John Atkinson, Director, Cancer Prevention and Tobacco Control, Canadian Cancer Society Jennifer McWhirter, Assistant Professor, Department of Population Medicine, University of Guelph.
  • Victoria Nadalin, Senior Research Associate, Population Health and Prevention, Cancer Care Ontario
