Algoma Best Start

Algoma Best Start is a health promotion demonstration project funded for 6 years until March 1998 by the Ontario Ministry of Health. The project aims to help communities improve the health of women and families before and during pregnancy.

Algoma Best Start designs and tests activities that provide information to community members, support women and families, and help change policies. The activities address the following risk factors that are associated with low birth weight: family life, nutrition, alcohol, tobacco and drug use, and teen pregnancy.
