Youth Violence: School-Prevention Interventions

A new monograph published by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Urban Education explores the nature of youth violence and makes recommendations to prevent youth violence in school.

Several themes are discussed in the monograph, including:

- a definition of school violence and its prevalence;

- a discussion of various risk factors for violent behavior among youth;

- an examination of children's reactions to violence,

- a discussion of the school setting;

- an examination of the role of evaluation in understanding what works in violence prevention;

- a list of examples of several types of school-based interventions
