Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research

The Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research (CRaNHR) is a research centre based at Lakehead University and Laurentian University in Northern Ontario, Canada. CRaNHR (formerly the Northern Health

Human Resources Research Unit), has been conducting research into rural and northern health issues since 1991. Topics addressed have included Aboriginal health, aging, health education, long-term care, palliative

care, recruitment, retention, and women's health.

Operational funding is provided by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, with additional funding being obtained through peer-reviewed grant competitions and commissioned research. CRaNHR has ties to research centres with similar mandates in other provinces and has collaborated on several interprovincial rural health projects. CRaNHR also maintains linkages with rural health centres in the United States, Australia and Europe.
