FoodShare Metro Toronto

FoodShares mandate is to work with communities to improve access to affordable, nutritious food.

The organization promotes food security by approaching the problem of hunger using many health promotion strategies. On the level of household and community food security, FoodShare runs and promotes food access alternatives. Providing training and education on baby nutrition, school nutrition programs, community kitchens and community gardens is also part of it's mandate. People who need emergency food assistance can call FoodShare s Hunger Hotline to receive information and referrals to community resources in their area.

FoodShare advocates for the redistribution of income toward low-income communities as well as community economic development initiatives that would allow people to buy healthy food. By sponsoring major conferences on hunger and nutrition-related issues, and through speaking engagements and media interviews, and its regular FoodAction Newsletter, FoodShare continues to raise public consciousness on the myriad issues surrounding ways to end hunger and improve access to affordable, nutritious foods.
