Mental Health Works

A workplace that invests in employee health can enjoy the returns of employee and customer satisfaction. The tools and strategies that are provided to employers often focus on preventative measures and short term solutions. Mental health problems have personal, social and financial consequences, and there are few resources for employers and employees that help deal effectively with mental illness in the workplace. Given that one in five people will be affected by mental illness we need to ask "How can employers hire and accommodate people with mental health problems?" Up to eighty percent of people with mental health problems could return to work in flexible work environments.

Mental Health Works is a joint project of the Global Business and Economic Roundtable on Addiction and Mental Health, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario Division, and the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship. This project is founded on the belief that the needs of employees and employers in the workplace can begin to be met by a focused program of research, information sharing, and useful resources. Mental Health Works provides strategies, resources and tools that are directly applicable to the Canadian workplace.
