St. Michael's Hospital Inner City Health Program

"The streets of south-east Toronto are a living laboratory for St. Michael's Hospital's inner city health program. It's the only program of its kind in Canada, with a clear definition, a research component and a structure for community input. The program encompasses: the emergency department; Rotary Club of Toronto Transition Centre for a safe place to recover after treatment in emergency; special programs for HIV/AIDS patients, women at risk, people with severe and persistent mental illness, detoxification respirology and cystic fibrosis, regional geriatric program; an integrated approach, combining medical, psychological and other types of care; medical students from the University of Toronto; and research to track, analyse and produce a better understanding of inner city health."
