Health Promotion Consultant - Immunization Promotion Project

7 months full-time Fee-for-Service contract

Your social marketing and resource development skills are needed at the Ministry of Health to develop and implement a comprehensive health promotion strategy designed to promote immunization as a very safe and effective intervention for individual and public health. In addition, you will assist with the preparation of prompt responses to vaccine safety issues and address the concerns raised by anti-immunization proponents.

Main Responsibilities:

* Develop and implement a comprehensive health promotion strategy designed to raise awareness of the benefits of immunization in the Ontario population.

* Assist in identifying current and potential issues about vaccine safety and effectiveness.

* Compile resources for use by public health and other health professionals involved in immunization and maintain up-to-date information about vaccine safety issues for ministry use.

* Assist with the preparation and/or dissemination of information to the health units and key stakeholders that may be used to address vaccine safety issues at the local level.


Formal: Baccalaureate degree in a health related field. Post graduate courses in health promotion.

Informal: Well developed social marketing and resource development skills, thorough knowledge of risk communication, experience in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of health promotion strategies at a population level, ability to interpret research, medical literature and epidemiological data and translate these into resources for the ministry, local health units and the public. Knowledge of epidemiology and the control of vaccine preventable diseases, adult education, and use of the Internet. Demonstrated superior communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with the public, professionals and local boards of health. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team environment consisting of multiple disciplines.
