Designing Prescription Medication Packaging and Labelling Project:
The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) has received funds from the National Literacy Secretariat to undertake a project to develop a plain language labelling and clear packaging design that improves prescription medication labelling and packaging systems, and enhances low-literacy seniors' capacity to follow their medication regimens and take better care of their health.
CPHA will provide a forum for key stakeholders, i.e. physicians, pharmacists, nurses, home care providers, low-literacy seniors, drug manufacturers and packaging manufacturers to come together and share their expertise, express concerns and provide suggestions on improving medication labelling and packaging systems. The ultimate goal of this project is to increase compliance and assist low-literacy seniors in managing their own medication regimens.
The Project Coordinator position for the Designing Prescription Medication Packaging and Labelling Project requires a candidate with strong project management, communication, organizational, and time management skills. A graduate degree, and five years experience in a similar position demonstrating management experience, competency, good judgement and leadership skills is desirable. Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and seniors' medication would be an asset, and excellent writing and editing skills are required. Proficiency in both official languages is desirable. The successful candidate will also have experience with diverse sectors with differing priorities working towards a common goal. Deliverables in this project are a Literature Review, a Stakeholders Interview Report, a Plain Language and Clear Design Prototype, a Symposium and a Summary Report. This two-year contract begins in September 1999, and the salary range is $42,000 to $50,000 per year, dependant on qualifications and experience.
