Self Help On-Line Coordinator: Self Help Resource Centre

The Mission of the Self Help Resource Centre is to promote self help/mutual aid

The job:

* to be the project leader on behalf of the SHRC for two major joint projects (currently in progress):

- the development of an on-line self help project for persons with HIV/AIDS or their care partners in conjunction with the Aids Committee of Toronto

- a resource mapping project related to self help groups in partnership with the UBC Institute for Health Promotion Research for the purpose of assisting the Canadian Health Network's development of a health promotion and disease prevention information web site

* to coordinate on behalf of the SHRC all projects relating to computers and internet usage including overseeing the completion of the set up of our on-line data base of self help groups and our Y2K readiness project

* to work as a member of the SHRC staff team in all the day to day work required to fulfil our mission and goals

The ideal candidate has a unique combination of education, skills and experience including:

* demonstrated experience with developing and effectively facilitating on-line support groups

* successful experience in program development, project management, evaluation and research

* excellent communication skills - face to face and on-line, with individuals and groups

* advanced writing and research skills including project and funding proposals, program reports and resource materials, needs assessments and data analysis

* energetic, enthusiastic team player who is at the same time a flexible independent worker

* experiential knowledge of self-help/mutual aid strategies preferred

* relevant university degree in health or social sciences

* proven technological skills including: knowledge of and ability to build on-line resources, tools and forums; excellent computer and internet skills; (minimum) Windows 95/98, MS Office 97/2000, web page or html editing programs

35 hours weekly (flexible time) for 6 months (with the possibility of future renewal) based on an annual salary rate of $43,000
