The GIS project is helping public health professionals to pilot the implementation of GIS technologies based on a common national infrastructure and standards for accessing large volumes of spatial data for the purpose of mapping health data.
Opportunity to gain experience using various GIS applications to access spatial data warehouses via Internet technologies. Duties to include: learning about data sets and how to use GIS software to prepare maps; researching and analyzing various issues; writing reports; participating in working groups involved with making spatial information available over the Internet.
* interest in GIS applications for public health
* ability to learn and work independently and within a small team
* knowledge of Health Canada and health issues in Canada
* website designing experience would be useful
Completion of one year of an undergraduate and/or graduate degree or diploma in community and public health, epidemiology, GIS technologies, geography, or computer science.
