The Dental Health Promotion Officer is responsible for assisting schools, teachers, parents and community groups in developing and implementing strategies targeted towards improving the dental health of children with greatest need. This key resource person is also responsible for developing and maintaining community resources that will assist in achieving the goal of improved oral health through better understanding of lifestyle, diet and regular personal care.
To be considered for this position a university degree in health promotion or one of the health, social or behavioral sciences is required. A minimum of 2 years related experience in health promotion with an emphasis on child growth and development and working with families and community groups is also required. Oral fluency, reading and writing ability in English is essential and oral fluency in French will be considered an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in dental health.
The scope of the position includes the ability to assess the health-related needs of individuals, families and groups, mobilize and facilitate groups as well as communicate effectively with individuals and groups in oral and written form. The successful candidate must be able to utilize creative decision-making and problem-solving skills, set priorities and manage time effectively and work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. A vehicle as well as a valid driver's license is required.
