Communications Specialist, Social & Public Health Services Department, City of Hamilton

Reporting to the Manager of Marketing & Information Services, the position will develop, co-ordinate and manage department-wide communications projects related to public health and social services programs and services. The Communications Specialist will ensure overall consistency and quality of communications products produced by the department as well as develop, implement and evaluate health communication strategies to increase knowledge, shift attitudes and influence behaviours across mandated public health programs.



You will have demonstrated experience in communications analysis and strategy development, journalism and/or health communication normally acquired through the completion of a post graduate Degree in Health Communication, Marketing/Social Marketing, Communications Sciences, Journalism or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You will have sound knowledge of communications campaign theory and design, and are skilled in strategic planning, developing and implementing a multi-year communications strategy. You have the ability to translate complex or technical ideas or information into simple terms. Experience in writing for a variety of audiences is a must.



Your superior verbal and written communication and project management skills are coupled with innovative thinking and strong problem solving skills. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of web-based applications is an asset.
