Communications Coordinator, National Network on Environments and Women's Health


The National Network on Environments and Women's Health (NNEWH) is one of four federal centres for women's health mandated to enhance the health systems understanding of and responsiveness to women's health. NNEWH is a national network of social researchers and community partners united to promote policy change to better the lives of Canadian women. The network's approach to research considers the social and physical environments that effect women's health.



The Communications Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director in the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of all policies and programs relating to the internal and external communications needs of the Network. The goal is to create awareness of NNEWH's programs with policy makers, the media, the research community, women's health community organizations, and the general public.
Responsibilities

* Assists in the development and implementation of an annual communications plan based on the Network's goals and priorities

* Scans the internal and external environment to identify communication opportunities and issues

* Writes, designs, and coordinates the layout of all research products, print materials, including network brochures and reports, annual report, and other materials for events

* Takes responsibility either directly or through direction for the writing, editing, design, production, and distribution of all printed documents directed to the Network's targeted public audiences

* Plans and executes an integrated media strategy, including researching and writing articles and press releases about Network activities to raise profile and build image within the women's health community

* Updates and maintains the design and content of the website

* Ensures that NNEWH brand/image is well represented and consistent in all materials at all times

* Coordinates and carries out all communications functions, to ensure ongoing awareness of NNEWH activities and program initiatives to

network members, to the other Centres of Excellence, to the Women's Health Bureau and other NNEWH stakeholders

* Reports dissemination and communication activities on a monthly basis



Qualifications

* oral and written fluency in French and English and have at least three years experience in the communications field

* experience in the development of a communications strategy, the preparation of press releases, and the implementation of a media relations program, and the development and maintenance of the organization's website and of other communication tools

* As the position requires understanding of public-policy formulation in the health field, experience in public environment assessment and

government relations is necessary

* University degree in communications/public relations

* Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

* Exceptional computer skills--must be extremely capable on Macintosh, PC, and all of the following: Microsoft Office Suite, Front Page, Dreamweaver, QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator print production process

* Proven media & community relations skills

* Excellent attention to detail, and proof reading and editing skills

* Ability to work as part of a team and work effectively under pressure

Starting salary range: $35,000-$42,000, based on experience, plus benefits
