Health Information Specialist, Women's Health Matters

The women's consumer health information websites of Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre-- and expanding. We are currently seeking a Health Information Specialist. This is a great opportunity to work with a dedicated team of women's health experts to increase access to reliable women's health information. The Health Information Specialist will build and sustain a women's health resource collection for the project.

We are also looking for a Communications Specialist and a Project Coordinator (both positions listed in OHPE 355.0).
Bilingual preferred

Contract position: May 1st, 2004 to March 31, 2005

Possibility of renewal for two years until March 31, 2007

Full-time position

The Health Information Specialist

* Develops a Collection Development Policy and Quality Assurance Process

* Works with collection contributors to identify new resources for collection and to manage and sustain the women's health collection

* Facilitates and coordinates a process for the review of existing women's health content

* Reviews records to ensure currency, accuracy and consistency with Collection Development Policy and Quality Assurance Process

* Catalogues, describes and enters new resources into the project content management system

* Develops and implements outreach strategies for collecting new resources

* Develops and implements strategy for evaluating the collection

Knowledge and Experience Required

* Knowledge of women's health issues and resources

* Familiarity with cataloguing and classification of health topics

* Experience selecting and evaluating health information resources

* Experience searching knowledge-based databases

* Experience writing abstracts or summaries

* Computer literacy - Microsoft Office suite

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Experience using the Internet for knowledge based information retrieval

* Ability to independently plan, execute and organize the work of maintaining the collection

* Sound judgement and ability to work as part of a team

* Bilingual (English/French) an asset

Educational Experience

* Masters in Library Science (MLS) from an accredited program

* At least three years experience with two years in the health field, one year working in a web environment

Salary range: $50,000 per annum
