Reporting to the Manager of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, the Workplace Health Promotion Specialist will work within a multi-disciplinary team, utilising a research-based population health framework. The position will have a key role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs as they relate to chronic disease, injury, and substance abuse prevention in the workplace environment. The position involves working inter-departmentally as well as with human resource professionals, union representatives, health professionals from other public health units, NGO representatives, health promotion service providers, community groups, workers, and retirees.
$26.03-$30.19 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package

Key areas of responsibility include supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of a comprehensive workplace health promotion program for a large international manufacturing company. The position requires hands-on involvement in order to ensure that each workplace location in Ontario and at various locations throughout the country has a functional workplace health promotion program in place. On-site collaboration with company, union, and local public health unit personnel will be required. Review of relevant literature and existing workplace health promotion programs in order to determine best practices for program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation will be required. A commitment to continuous quality improvement of the program is essential.
* A minimum of a Master's Degree in health promotion or a related field
* At least one year's experience working in the area of workplace health promotion
* A strong background in research, program evaluation, policy development, social marketing, and behavioural change
* Superior communication (written and oral), problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills
* A high level of computer competence with Microsoft Office Professional software applications
* A valid Ontario Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle during hours of work is required
* Ability to do a significant amount of travel throughout Southern Ontario
* If required, a criminal clearance certificate must be provided at the applicant's cost
* Advanced understanding of Health Risk Appraisal Tools for use in workplace settings
* Experience in evaluating workplace health promotion programs
* Advanced understanding of the organizational benefits of comprehensive workplace health promotion programs
* Familiarity with the principles and standards of quality assurance programs (ISO standards, NQI, etc.)
* Familiarity and comfort with organizational and union dynamics within the manufacturing sector
* Advanced understanding of shift-work and its impact on health
* Experience in developing strategies and interventions to deal with stress in the "workplace"
* Advanced word processing, statistical analysis, and desktop publishing software experience
* Competence in both official languages
