Causal Interpreter, Joy Luck Women's Project: Building Capacity

The South Riverdale Community Health Centre and the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre of Mount Sinai Hospital are hiring a part-time interpreter to work on the Joy Luck Women's Project - A Breast Health Program for the Chinese Community. This is a two-year project funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The objectives of this project are to educate Chinese women about the importance of breast health, breast screening practices, and the early detection of cancer.

1. Co-ordinate breast screening services offered

2. Provide accompaniment and interpretation at screening sites

3. Conduct telephone interviews as part of the project guidelines

4. Record and file the screening services and telephone interviews


1. Diploma holder in health, social science, adult education, or a combination of post-secondary education and significant experience

2. Fluent in English, Cantones,e and Mandarin

3. Basic computer skills in Excel

4. Excellent communication skills

5. Ability to work independently and prepared to work flexible hours

6. Direct experience working with seniors in a non-profit setting

7. Proven experience in interpretation (individual/group)

8. Ability to speak and write in English

9. Familiar with medical terminology

10. Experience in telephone interview/conducting research

11. Experience working in a health care setting and/or a health centre
